
Beach Bums Use Long Ball in Afternoon Win at Florence

FLORENCE, KY - The Traverse City Beach Bums(28-27), in their only morning start of the season, use five home runs to defeat the Florence Freedom(27-28), by a final score of 9-7.
The Beach Bums didn't waste any time getting the offense rolling as Ryan Kemp led off with a double into left field. Isaac Benard followed with an infield single that ticked off of the third baseman's glove. After Will Kengor reached on a fielder's choice to put runner on the corners, Steve Lohr blasted his third homer of the season, deep over the left field wall, for an early 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Freedom struck back to take their first lead of the game. Rick Ramirez Jr. Slammed a two-run homer down the left field line, Ryan Rinsky drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Caleb Lopes hit an RBI double, and Harrison White scored on a balk, giving Florence a 5-3 lead.
Traverse City responded with a big inning of their own in the fifth. With one away, Lohr hit his second homer of the game. Oliver followed with his own solo bomb down the left field line, tying the game at five. After a Noah McGowan walk, Kendall Patrick ripped a two-run shot over the left field wall, giving the Beach Bums a 7-5 lead.
In the eighth, pinch-hitter, and reigning league player of the week Skylar Ewing, tied the game up on one swing. He slammed a two-run homer over the left field wall, making it 7-7. The Beach Bums would return the favor in the ninth inning. Connor Oliver led off by working a full count walk then, after a pitching change, pinch-hitter Alexis Rivera cranked a two-run shot to right for his third home run of the season, giving Traverse City the lead for good.
Matt Williams pitched one inning of relief work for the win, in spite of giving up a run on two hits and three walks. He improves to 3-1. Patrick McGrath is dealt the loss in two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on two walks, and falling to 0-1. John Michael surrendered a hit but struck out two for his tenth save of the season.
Thursday night, the Beach Bums and Florence Freedom play for the final time in the regular season to close out this week's three game set. Getting the call for Florence is Christian DeLeon and John Havird starts for the Beach Bums.
