Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners dropped their second straight contest on Tuesday night against the Schaumburg Boomers at Rent One Park, as former Miner Payton Lobdell pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout in a 6-0 Southern Illinois defeat.
Schaumburg took the lead right away with two outs in the first inning, as Ty Moore's double off starter Aaron Rozek made the score 1-0. The Boomers would add on three more two-out runs against Rozek (2-2) in the game, with Kenny Towns driving in two with a single in the third inning to make it 3-0, and Josh Gardiner's bloop single in the sixth chasing Rozek and making the score 4-0.
The Boomers then added on two more runs in the seventh against Patrick Duester for the 6-0 final score, as Lobdell (3-4) allowed just four singles on the night as well as two walks, striking out five to toss the shutout in his first start against his former team on 127 pitches, 79 for strikes.
The Miners will try and even the series on Wednesday night, July 18th, against the Boomers at 7:05 p.m., with Geno Encina pitching for Southern Illinois.
