Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY- For the third straight night the Elmira Jackals out shot their opponent. For the second time in three games the opposing goaltender stole the show, tonight it was Dayton's Tyler Plante. With superb goaltending from Plante the Bombers picked up their 21st win of the season and two crucial points to move them into a tie for second place in the North Division.
The Bombers got the scoring started just 3:28 into the first period when Brock Wilson netted his third of the season. The Bombers extended the lead to 2-0 moments later at the 6:08 mark on a goal from Danny Lapointe. The Jackals would strike back on the power play at the 13:08 mark when Chris Korchinski netted his 11th of the year. Benoit Doucet and Derek Couture assisted on the play. The first period came to a close at 2-1.
The second period would feature a handful of highlight reel saves from David Shantz and Tyler Plante. The Jackals out shot Dayton 14-9 in the middle frame but superb goaltending held the score at 2-1 until the 5:50 mark of the third period. Nino Musitelli netted his ninth of the year to extend the Bomber lead to 3-1. Elmira would strike back with another Doucet, Couture, Korchinski connection this time at the 8:40 mark. Couture got credit with his first goal as a Jackal.
Dayton would counter with goals from Reaney and Lapointe at the 11:00 and 11:29 marks. At the 15:53 mark the Jackals struck for a "Top Ten Play". Derek Couture fed Benoit Doucet with a perfect pass, Doucet then landed a cross ice feed that Korchinski pounded home for his 12th of the season, second of the game. The Jackals had many chances in the third, but Tyler Plante shut the door time and time again. The Bombers tacked on one more goal, an empty netter with 45 seconds left in the game, Riedels 15th.
With the loss the Jackals fall to 17-16-1-3 while the Bombers improve to 21-13-1-3.
