Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - With the game tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, the Gateway Grizzlies used an eight-run rally to break the game wide open and defeat the Road Warriors 9-1 at GCS Ballpark Thursday night.

The win gave the Grizzlies (40-29) their eighth straight series win and brought them one game back of Schaumburg in the West Division.

Antone DeJesus led off the second inning with an RBI double and came around to score on a John Shelby RBI double to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.

The Road Warriors (3-6) tied the game at one in the fifth inning on a Tyler Hall RBI single.

The score stayed 1-1 until the eighth inning when the Grizzlies exploded for eight runs on five hits to take an eight-run lead. Two Warriors errors, three walks and two batters hit by a pitch helped out the cause. Shelby, Rogelio Noris, Jon Myers and Antone DeJesus all had one RBI in the inning while Chris McClendon drove in two.

Chris Enourato got a no-decision in his start for the Grizzlies, despite only giving up one run in six innings.

Jordan Cudney (1-0) fired two scoreless innings to notch his first win of the season.

DeJesus paced the Grizzlies with a 3-for-5 night while Myers and Shelby both had mult-hit games.

Gateway will begin a three-game series with the River City Rascals on Friday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Paul Tremlin (4-2) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
