Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners have signed catcher Chris Anderson who has four years of affiliated baseball experience in the Atlanta Braves organization. Anderson, a product of San Diego, California played six games with the Washington Wild Things this season. He has a career fielding percentage of .990 with 84 assists.
"Chris comes with a very strong background as an excellent defensive catcher", Miners manager Mike Pinto said. "He has hit successfully in more experienced leagues and we think his skill set will help this team offensively and defensively."
Last season, Anderson played with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League. In 45 games, he registered 30 hits, eight home runs and 21 RBI's. He batted in .244 on the season. He scored 19 runs and walked ten times.
In 2010, Anderson played with three teams in the Braves organization. He played with Rome (A), Myrtle Beach (A+) and Mississippi (AA). In Rome, Anderson hit .143 in nine games with three hits and three runs scored. He played with current Miners teammate Cory Harrilchak. In Myrtle Beach, Anderson hit .154 in four games played and registered two hits and one RBI. With Mississippi, Anderson hit .286 with two RBI's and six hits in seven games played.
In 2009, Anderson played with four teams. He played with Danville (Rk), Rome (A), Myrtle Beach (A+) and Mississippi (AA). In Danville, Anderson played with Harrilchak. Combined in 2009, Anderson hit .100 with with one home run and one RBI in 16 games. He scored six runs and registered four hits.
In 2008, Anderson played for Danville, Rome and Myrtle Beach. In 34 games combined with the three teams, Anderson hit .200 with eight RBI's and 18 hits. He recorded seven doubles and walked 14 times.
In 2007, Anderson played with Danville. In 22 games, he hit .286 with two home runs and seven RBI's. He recorded 14 hits, three doubles and scored 14 runs.
