Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The BlueClaws couldn't break through against starting pitcher Matt Barnes, but they scored seven runs with reliever Hunter Cervenka in the game for a 7-3 win Sunday afternoon over the Greenville Drive.
Lakewood had Carlos Perdomo on 1st base with two outs when Barnes was removed from the game by Greenville manager Carlos Febles. Cervenka was inserted into the ballgame and allowed the first seven batters he faced to reach on three singles, two doubles, one walk and one hit-by-pitch. It resulted in a seven-run inning for the BlueClaws and the third loss for Cervenka whose record drops to 0-3 on the season.
The first run that scored for the BlueClaws was the runner that Cervenka inherited from Barnes and was the first run allowed by Barnes all season. He has now struck out 42 batters in 26.2 innings and with the run allowed, his ERA sits at 0.34.
Bryan Morgado came out of the bullpen with the BlueClaws trailing 3-0, but tossed three shutout innings to earn his second victory of the season. Morgado scattered three hits and struck out two batters while matching his season-high performance of three innings of work.
The BlueClaws will look for their first sweep of the season in the final game of the three-game series against the Greenville Drive Monday night. Kenny Giles (0-0, 4.85) heads to the mound against Greenville's Henry Owens (1-1, 10.05) who allowed three runs in three innings against the BlueClaws on April 7th. First pitch for Monday's game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
