Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads scored in every inning from the third through the eighth en route to the 12-3 blowout win against the Charleston RiverDogs, before 1,242 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening .
Charleston (16-6) struck for all of its runs in the top of the first, before RHP Jerad Eickhoff (W, 3-2) kept the RiverDogs bats in check. After a three-run homer by RF Tyler Austin, Eickhoff retired eight of the next nine batters he faced and did not allow another run through his seven innings on the day.
The Crawdads (15-8) tied it with three tallies in the bottom of the third against RHP Caleb Cotham (L, 2-1). 1B Trever Adams led off with a single and moved to second base when LF Chris Grayson reached on a fielding error. After a throwing error by C Gary Sanchez on a pick-off attempt advanced both runners, 2B Rougned Odor scored Adams with an RBI single to left field. SS Hanser Alberto followed with an RBI base hit, before RF Zach Cone tied it with an RBI fielder's choice, squaring the score at 3-3.
Hickory wasted no time moving in front. 3B Drew Robinson started the bottom of the fourth with a double and then raced home two outs later on an RBI single from Grayson, lifting the 'Dads in front, 4-3.
The Crawdads padded the lead with a two-run bomb by C Kellin Deglan in the fifth inning and a solo shot by Grayson in the sixth, stretching it to a 7-3 advantage. Robinson added another run to the 'Dads lead with an RBI single in the seventh inning, before four more runs came in in the bottom of the eighth.
Adams again started the rally, leading off the eighth with a base hit. Grayson walked and Odor bounced out to first, putting runners at second and third with one away. Alberto ripped a two-run single inside the third-base line, scoring both Adams and Grayson for the 10-3 lead. One out later, Deglan doubled off the right field wall, moving Alberto to third. DH Jeremy Williams and Robinson put the finishing touches on the barrage with back-to-back RBI singles, making it a nine-run lead for the 'Dads.
After Eickhoff's seven innings, RHP Nick Martinez logged two scoreless innings to close the 12-3 win for the Crawdads.
