Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Idaho Falls keeps hope of a .500 season alive. Chukars score five runs in the first inning, and Matt Strahm ends the game in style. The Greybirds knock off the Raptors 8-4.
Idaho Falls (37-38) got to work in the first inning off of JD Underwood. The right-hander recorded the first two outs, then allowed a walk and five straight hits. Samir Duenez singled in two Chukars runs. A few batters later, Mike Hill belted his league leading 8th triple of the season to score two more runs. In total, the Chukars scored five runs to hop in front.
The Chukars kept the runs coming in the middle innings. Samir Duenez scored on a passed ball in the third frame. A wild pitch brought in Robert Pehl in the sixth inning. Later in the frame, Pedro Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brawlun Gomez.
Zach Lovvorn (3-5) kept the lead in tact. The Oxford, Alabama native pitched into the sixth inning. The Raptors scrapped two runs off of Lovvorn in the fourth, but that was all he allowed until the sixth. Ivan Vela and Joe Meggs each singled in runs, ending the night of the right-hander. Lovvorn went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs.
Matt Strahm relived Lovvorn, and had his best assortment of pitches. The left-hander was able to finish the ballgame, recording 8 of his 10 strikeouts by way of the strikeout. Strahm surrendered just one hit en route to his first save.
Idaho Falls finishes out the season tomorrow with a game against Ogden.
