
Big eighth lifts River Cats

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento River Cats (27-20) used a four-run eighth inning to beat the Memphis Redbirds (20-25) by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday at Raley Field.
The River Cats trailed by two runs (4-6) entering the eighth inning, then managed to load the bases with two outs. They cut the Memphis lead to one run when RHP Josh Pearce hit RF Mike Lockwood, scoring 2B Adam Morrissey. The following batter, 3B Mike Edwards, cleared the bases with a double to right field.
RHP Britt Reames (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing no runs on one hit in the eighth inning. RHP Justin Lehr picked up his team-leading ninth save of the season. RHP Steve Stemle (0-1) took the loss for Memphis.
The River Cats and Redbirds will play the final game of their four-game series on Thursday (7:05 pm) at Raley Field. Sacramento will begin an eight-game roadtrip on Friday at Edmonton.
