Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson scored the last 11 runs of Wednesday's game in Albuquerque, including six runs in the ninth for a come from behind 12-7 win over the Isotopes at Isotopes Park. Trailing 7-1 after five innings, the Sidewinders scored four runs in the sixth, one in the eighth and six in the ninth for the win.
The Sidewinders have scored 34 runs on 47 hits winning the three games of the series while posting six different innings where they have scored four or more runs.
Joe Dillon put the Isotopes on the board in the second inning and tied the game at 1 when he connected for a solo home run off Phil Stockman. Albuquerque quickly took the lead scoring five runs in the bottom of the third, all coming with two outs. Matt Padgett capped the inning with a two-run homer.
Trailing 7-1, the Sidewinders chased Isotope starter Matt Blank with a four-run sixth. Tim Olson hammered a long two-run home run. Julio Ramirez added an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Sidewinders closed to within a run in the bottom of the eighth when Ramirez doubled and scored on a single from Keoni DeRenne.
In the ninth Jerry Gil tied the game on the first pitch of the inning from Mike Flannery. Gil broke out of an 0-17 with a monster home run that cleared the bullpen and four levels of picnic decks in left field. Juan Brito put Tucson ahead 8-7 when he doubled in Steve Neal who had walked. Brito scored on a Flannery wild pitch to push the lead to 9-7. Alan Zinter chased home Brito with his third hit of the game, a double that glanced off the 428 sign in center field. Before the inning was over DeRenne and Noochie Varner added run scoring hits.
Brandon Villuafuerte earned the win throwing two scoreless innings. Tucson's bullpen allowed just two hits in 4.1 innings of work to give Tucson a chance to rally in the late innings.
Tucson's record improved to 27-19. The Sidewinders will finish off the four-game series Thursday afternoon with an 11:05 a.m. start (Tucson time). Jon Cannon (2-2 4.84) will start for the Sidewinders against the Isotopes Mike Nannini (2-3 6.85). The game will be TAPE DELAYED on Cool 1450 AM and will air at 7:00 p.m.
