Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Lansing, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (36-30) were defeated by the Lansing Lugnuts (32-35) by a 3-1 score in a contest that was highlighted by great pitching. LHP Sean Bierman took the loss for the Hot Rods despite allowing just three runs during six innings pitched in a quality start. Leonardo Reginatto and Marty Gantt combined for all but one of Bowling Green's hits in the defeat.
Bierman and RHP Roberto Osuna of the Lugnuts worked quickly through four shutout innings to start the game. Bierman faced the minimum through four innings and briefly allowed one base runner that was quickly negated by a Hot Rods double play in the third. Osuna surrendered a two-out single to Gantt in the second inning but stranded him at second base following a steal and a strikeout.
All of the scoring within the contest occurred in the fifth. Reginatto led off the frame with a single and reached third base on a missed catch by Kevin Patterson during a pickoff attempt. Gantt drove in Reginatto with a single by Osuna up the middle for a 1-0 lead. Lansing scored in the bottom of the inning on a three-run home run off the bat of Emilio Guerrero. The 3-1 advantage for the Lugnuts held up through the rest of the game.
Bowling Green's best chance for a rally came in the very next inning. Tyler Goeddel doubled off Osuna to right field and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Tommy Coyle. Luke Maile hit a hard ground ball that went right to Christian Lopes at second base, who threw out Maile at first base.
The Hot Rods were also unable to score against three Lugnut relievers. RHP Kramer Champlin, LHP Griffin Murphy, and RHP Arik Sikula kept the Hot Rods off the board while RHP Reinaldo Lopez steered Bowling Green through a pair of scoreless innings in relief.
Bowling Green and Lansing will meet again in game two of this series at 6:05 PM CDT on Saturday. Hot Rods RHP Jeff Ames (5-1, 2.70) is scheduled to pitch against Lugnuts RHP Javier Avendano (4-4, 4.65). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Chris Kleinhans-Schulz starts at 5:35 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340WBGN.com).
