Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - One swing of the bat turned out to be the difference in a well-pitched ballgame as Emilio Guerrero's three-run homer gave the Lansing Lugnuts (32-35) a 3-1 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (36-30) on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Lugs trailing 1-0, Guerrero provided all the offense and half of the fireworks by hitting a three-run homer off the very top of the batter's eye in straight-away center field.
The moonshot was just the third career home run for the 20-year-old shortstop, and it provided more than enough offense for the Lugnuts' white hot pitching staff.
Lansing starter Roberto Osuna (Win, 3-3) pitched a career-high six innings, allowing just a single unearned run on four hits while striking out six and issuing just one walk.
Since returning from the disabled list last weekend, Osuna has allowed just one unearned run in 11 innings of work with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Opponents have mustered just six hits against him.
Kramer Champlin and Griffin Murphy combined to pitch the next two frames scorelessly before handing the ball to Arik Sikula, who converted on his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
The Guerrero homer resulted in the only runs allowed by Bowling Green starter Sean Bierman (Loss, 2-3), who lasted six innings, striking out six with a pair of walks. The homer by Guerrero was one of just four hits he allowed in the outing.
The middle game of the three-game series is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Saturday night. Lansing will send Javier Avendano (4-4, 4.65) to the mound against Bowling Green's Jeff Ames (5-1, 2.70).
