Berglund's Slam Gives Akron Grand 6-3 Win Over Bowie

Michael Berglund's grand slam capped a five run eighth and powered the Akron RubberDucks to a 6-3 comeback win over the Bowie Baysox on Sunday night at Canal Park. Michael Kelly tossed a scoreless inning of relief in his rehab appearance.

Turning Point

Akron got the comeback started quickly in the bottom half of the eighth as Aaron Bracho was hit by a pitch before Korey Holland worked a walk and Milan Tolentino singled to load the bases. Joe Naranjo worked a six pitch walk to score Bracho and bring Akron within a run at 3-2 Bowie. Berglund followed with a grand slam into the Cutwater Tiki Terrace to put the RubberDucks ahead for the first time all night at 6-3.

Mound Presence

Hunter Stanley got the start for Akron and looked strong early allowing just one run over his first five innings of work. The right-hander surrendered a single and a walk to open the sixth before departing. Erik Sabrowski followed allowing a single to plate a run before rolling a double play and getting a strikeout to end the inning. Kelly followed with a scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out one. Tanner Burns allowed a run over his inning of work. Franco Aleman allowed a base hit with one out before rolling a double play to end the game.

Duck Tales

After Bowie got a run in the second, Akron answered back in the third. Bryce Ball launched a two-out solo home run to tie the game 1-1.

Notebook

Akron's win gives the RubberDucks the 11-10 series victory over the Baysox this season...Kelly topped out at 96 mph and threw 12 pitches (9 strikes)...He has tossed two scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out three in his two rehab games with Akron...Aleman is now a perfect six-for-six in saves and tossed 22.1 scoreless innings since being promoted to the RubberDucks...Game Time: 2:37...Attendance: 4,977.

On the Pond

The RubberDucks will have Monday off before traveling to Richmond for the start of six-game series against the Flying Squirrels on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6:05 p.m. The RubberDucks will return to Canal Park to start the final homestand of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:35 p.m. against the Altoona Curve.
