
Berg becomes all-time Everblades scorer in 5-3 win

PENSACOLA, FL - The Florida Everblades (41-22-6) saw two of their players reach big career milestone's as they jumped back into second place with a 5-3 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots (19-45-6) on Sunday night at the Pensacola Civic Center in front of a crowd of 2,661.
Reggie Berg became the Everblades all-time leading scorer with an assist on Florida's final goal of the night, which gave him 311 points in his seven-year career with the club. The record setting point pushed Berg past Tom Buckley who played with the Everblades from 1994-2004. In addition to Berg's accomplishment, captain Ryan Brindley skated in his 500th professional game.
The Everblades came out flying in the first 20 minutes of play scoring twice in the first seven minutes of the contest and out-shooting the Ice Pilots 18-5. Brad Parsons got the 'Blades on the board with a power play tally at 4:40 with a wrist shot from the right circle that found it's way through the pads of Pensacola goaltender Adam Geragosian. Vince Bellissimo and Adam Taylor tallied the assists on Parsons' 11th goal of the year. The Everblades kept the pressure on and eventually found the back of the net for the second time at 6:55 when Brad Zancanaro tipped home a shot from the top of the crease after getting a pass fed to him by Ernie Hartlieb. Parsons notched the second assist on Zancanaro's 16th of the season.
The second period saw the Ice Pilots bring pressure to the Everblades en-route to out scoring them 2-1. Pensacola opened the period with a quick power play goal just 1:01 into the frame when John Hecimovic deflected a centering feed from Rob Rankin past Everblades goalie Jamie Holden. The Everblades however responded shortly after when Bellissimo tallied his 27th goal of the season with a shot from the right circle that sailed under the cross bar at 2:27. Mike Card and Parsons assisted on the goal that gave the Everblades a 3-1 advantage. The game remained that way until the mid point of the period when Pensacola trimmed the lead to one after Erik Johnson jammed home a loose puck at the right post at 11:32 for his 12th goal of the season.
The Everblades extended their lead back to two early in the third period on Jon Lehun's 22nd goal of the season when he scooped up the puck and chipped it over Geragosian's glove for a 4-2 lead. Jarret Lukin and Johner picked up the assists. The Ice Pilots refused to go away however as they once against trimmed the lead to one goal. Hecimovic tallied his second power play goal of the night at the 10 minute mark of the period after a rebound came to him in the right circle.
The Ice Pilots continued to bring pressure over the final 10 minutes in their quest to tie the game, and saw their best chance come after the Everblades were whistled for a penalty with 1:19 remaining. With the goaltender pulled and attacking 6-on-4 the Ice Pilots saw a couple chances to the net thwarted by Holden, and then saw the Everblades seal the game with an empty net tally. After Martin Tuma blocked a shot from the point, the puck slid to Berg, who fed Zancanaro out of the zone and fired the puck into the gaping cage with 11 seconds remaining for the 20th short-handed tally for the Everblades this season..
In net, Holden picked up the win by stopping 25 of 28 shots to see his record climb to 2-2-0, while Geragosian took the loss by after allowing four goals on 47 shots to drop his record to 0-4-0.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the game 1-for-4, while the Ice Pilots closed out the game 2-for-6.
