Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Alaska Aces 4-2 on Saturday night in front of 7,126 fans at the Orleans Arena. For the second straight night, center Tyler Mosienko scored the game-winning goal, leading the Wranglers to their ninth straight victory. Center Derek Edwardson scored twice and Joe Tallari added the final goal as Las Vegas won their fifth straight home game. Goalie Mike McKenna improved to 24-4-7 with 22 saves for his fifth straight win. Las Vegas moved to within one point of the Aces for the overall lead in the National Conference and the ECHL. Las Vegas will host Long Beach on Tuesday at 7:05 pm.
Alaska jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with power-play goals by Peter Metcalf and Kevin Croxton. Metcalf opened the scoring at 4:43 with his 13th goal of the season. Croxton tipped a Metcalf shot at 18:12, boosting the Aces lead to 2-0 before the end of the period.
Las Vegas answered back with three goals in the second period. Center Derek Edwardson trimmed the Aces lead to one, just 30-seconds into the period with his 25th goal of the season. At 9:53, the Wranglers tied the game at two with Edwardson's second of the night from Tyler Mosienko and Aki Seitsonen. Mosienko then tallied his 18th of the season with 2:23 remaining in the second period, pushing Las Vegas in front at 3-2.
In the third period, Las Vegas extended its' lead to 4-2 when Joe Tallari notched his 14th of the year at 6:34. The game turned ugly in the final six minutes with Alaska racking up 11 penalties for 63 penalty minutes. The Aces were whistled for two match penalties, a ten-minute misconduct and a game misconduct.
Las Vegas trails Alaska by one point in the National Conference race and the ECHL overall lead. The Wranglers have four games remaining, while the Aces have three games remaining. The nine-game winning streak is the second longest of the season for Las Vegas. The Wranglers posted a ten-game winning streak in November.
Las Vegas will conclude a four-game home stand with Long Beach at 7:05 pm on Tuesday night at the Orleans Arena. The Wranglers will then head to Long Beach on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00 pm. Las Vegas will conclude the season with two games against Stockton at the Orleans Arena on Friday, April 6th and Saturday, April 7th at 7:05 pm. Friday, the Wranglers will hand out hats to the first 2,000 fans compliments of KB Home.
