Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH-The Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Trenton Titans 5-4 on Sunday night at the EJ Nutter Center.

Both teams came out firing and determined with playoff positioning on the line. The Trenton Titans were fighting for a playoff spot and the Dayton Bombers fighting to clinch home ice in the first playoff series. The scoring remained quiet until the Titans went on a five on three powerplay. The Titans were able to work the puck into the slot where Les Hagget (22) put the puck past a sprawling Adam Berkhoel (Loss 28 saves) at the 17:15 mark. The period was almost over but with a minute left Paul Kelly (24) tipped in shot from Scott Ford past Titans' netminder Greg Naumenko (Win 24 saves) to tie the game 1-1.

The intensity continued into the second period when Ryan Reid (2) smashed a rebound passed Naumenko only 2:53 into the period. The Titans were not about to let the Bombers run away with the game however, and when the Titans went on the penalty kill, Scott Bertoli (29) threw a wrist shot from the blue line beating Berkhoel at the 5:41 mark. After evening the score, the Titans were quickly forced back onto the penalty kill. This time the Bombers' defenseman Trevor Hendrix (5) made the Titans pay by sniping a wrist shot over the glove of Naumenko at the 6:45 mark. The Bombers took a 3-2 lead into the third period.

The third period is usually the Bombers' best period; however Sunday night this was not the case. The Bombers gave up penalty after penalty and the Titans capitalized. Troy Riddle (27) put in the second Titan's goal on a three on five opportunity at the 7:57 mark. The Titans would score twice more on the powerplay in the third period; Mike Manley (5) scored to give the Titans a 4-2 lead at the 10:27 mark and Bertoli(30) put in his second at the 14:19 mark. The Bombers added a three on five goal of their own at the 19:14 mark by Mike Berry (18) but it wasn't enough and the Titans won 5-4. The Bombers remain in first place however, because the Johnstown Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones 2-1 in overtime.

The Bombers play again at the Nutter Center Tuesday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Wheeling Nailers for the final time in the regular season.
