Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots rallied from three two-goal deficits only to fall short in the come back in a 5-3 loss to the Florida Everblades on Sunday at The Hangar.
The difference in the game was the opening period where the Everblades fired 18 shots on goal and jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead.
With the victory Florida moved back into second in the wild South Division just one point back of first place Texas Wildcatters. The Ice Pilots saw their record fall to 19-45-2-4 for 44 points and 11-18-2-3 on home ice.
After the Ice Pilots fell behind 2-0 in the opening frame, they quickly went to work in the second and scored on a power play just 61 seconds in when John Hecimovic's centering pass went off a defenders skate and into the net.
The Everblades restored their second two-goal deficit of the night 1:16 later to make it 3-1, but the Ice Pilots worked hard again when Erik Johnson scored in close from Dan Sullivan and Rene Gauthier and it was 3-2 after 40 minutes.
The Ice Pilots had a power play to open up the third period but couldn't score and a short time later Florida took their third two-goal lead at 4-2. But Pensacola would come back again using the power play as the key when Hecimovic scored his second Dan Sullivan and Jesse Baraniuk to make it 4-3.
The Ice Pilots pushed forward in the final 10 minutes and had a power play in the final minute of the game but couldn't tie the game. The Everblades would add an empty net marker to round out the scoring.
Adam Geragosian took the loss for the Ice Pilots despite stopping 43 of 48 shots. Jamie Holden won his second as an Everblade.
The Ice Pilots return to action on Tuesday when they host the Florida Everblades for the final time of the regular season at 7:05 pm at The Hangar. It's two for Tuesday where fans can buy one regular priced ticket and receive and second one free.
