Benefit Cookout for Rusty Begnaud

The Pensacola Pelicans announce today Peoples First Community Bank and Cat Country 98.7 have teamed up to host a benefit cookout for Pelicans pitcher Rusty Begnaud on Friday, June 30. Supporters can get a hot dog meal for only $5 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Peoples First Bank Gulf Breeze branch located at 1387 Shoreline Drive next to Cancun's.

Begnaud suffered a broken neck after a diving accident on Tuesday, June 20. leaving him paralyzed from the chest down with limited movement in his arms and hands. The right-hander is in Baptist Hospital awaiting a bed opening at The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA where he will begin his rehabilitation.

Mr. Margarita will also be on site providing non-alcoholic frozen drinks. All the proceeds will be donated to the Rusty Begnaud Benefit Account.

The entire Pensacola community has stepped up to bat for Rusty and his family who have been away from their home in New Iberia, LA.
- Jerry's Cajun donated and delivered food
- TK101 and Creative Instinct produced a giant banner for fans and friends to sign
- Pelicans Booster Club sowing "#18" in hats and shirts for donations
- Pelicans Booster Club selling raffle tickets for catered beach suite for a Pelicans game
- Pelican's fans donated nearly $10,000 to the fund this past homestand.
- Rubber wrist bands
- Rusty Begnuad t-shirts.

The Pelicans wrap-up their series with the St. Paul Saints tonight at 7:05 p.m. Pensacola is currently in a three-team log jam at first place, tied with the Fort Worth Cats and the Coastal Bend Aviators. The Pels head to Missouri to play the St. Joe Blacksnakes before returning home on July 4th to face the Sioux Falls Canaries for a three-game series.
