This game was most certainly a pitcher's duel, with Sioux Falls starter Tony Cogan besting St. Joe's Mark Nussbeck for his fourth win of the year. Both pitchers tossed complete games and each allowed their opponent seven hits, but it was Cogan who allowed just a single earned run and struck out five to walk away with the win. Nussbeck struck out seven and allowed three earned runs to see his record fall to 4-2. Canaries RF Dustin Delucchi was 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot with a run scored and an RBI and 2B Chris Weber was 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Sioux Falls to the win, their 15th of the year. St. Joe CF Scooter Jordan drove in the Blacksnakes' only run of the game, going 2-for-3 on the night. DH Wil Quintana was the only other St. Joe hitter to record more than one hit in the loss. He was 2-for-3.

Sioux City got a strong outing from starting pitcher Tom Lipari to beat the first place Saltdogs by a run at home. Lipari threw eight efficient innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and struck out six to improve his record to 5-2 on the year. Lipari has now pitched 67 innings so far this season, tops in the American Association. Sioux City RF Mike Richardson was 3-for-4 on the night with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Explorers at the plate. 2B Alex Llanos was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and C Chris Grossman was 2-for-4, each hitting their fourth home run of the season. With the loss, Lincoln's lead in the North Division is now just one game over St. Paul, who was victorious over Pensacola.

St. Paul 5, Pensacola 4

St. Paul staved off a Pensacola comeback to hang on and win by a run and pull to within a game of first place behind North Division leader Lincoln. The Saints got a solid performance from starting pitcher Charlie Ruud. Ruud went seven innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits and didn't walk a batter, while striking out seven. The Saints did all of their scoring in the first two innings, posting two and three, respectively and held the Pelicans to one run in second, fourth, fifth and eighth to hang on for the win. Matt Hammons came on to pitch the last inning and a third, and struck out three of the five batters he faced to pick up his 11th save.

Fort Worth SS Mark Mirizzi went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, the biggest of which came in the bottom of the 10th inning and gave the Cats a 5-4 win and sole possession of first place in the South Division. Fort Worth 1B Jordan Foster was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. RF Carlos Adolfo also had a big night offensively for the Cats, going 3-for-5 with a run batted in and leadoff hitter Tony Mota's only hit in five at bats was his fourth home run of the year, a solo shot. 2B/1B Matt Creighton and LF Ryan Russ each went deep for Coastal Bend in the loss. The Aviators fall into a tie for second place with Pensacola who lost to St. Paul earlier in the night.
