West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Kevin Slowey retired the first 26 Whitecaps batters in the game on the way to a one-hit, 7-0 complete game victory for Beloit. Dusty Ryan looped the 110th pitch of the game from Slowey to right field for a base hit with two out in the bottom of the ninth to spoil the perfect game. Slowey struck out the next batter, Clete Thomas, on a called strike three to finish off the win. Dallas Trahern had a disappointing night as the starter for the Whitecaps. He allowed seven runs (6 ER) in just 2.2 innings pitched and took the loss. However, following the departure of Trahern, four West Michigan pitchers - Lavon Lewis, Ed Clelland, Anthony Tomey and P. J. Finigan - combined to allow just one hit over the final 6.1 innings. In fact, 15 of the final 16 Snappers batters were retired. Deacon Lewis began the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Steve Tolleson came up with a two-run single, then scored to make the lead 5-0 on a Burns single in the second. Tarrence Patterson made it 7-0 on a two-run, two-out double in the third. Slowey struck out ten batters. He was a second round pick by the Minnesota Twins out of Winthrop University in the June 2005 amateur draft. Javi Sanchez, Dwayne White and Patterson each scored twice for Beloit.
