Dragons Pounded by Kane County 15-4

Geneva, IL- The Dayton Dragons (17-26, 47-66) had dropped 10 of their last 11 games on the road and were looking for better results away from Fifth Third Field opening a four game series on Saturday night at Elfstrom Stadium against the Kane County Cougars (21-22, 52-60). The venue was different but the result was the same as Dayton dropped its 11h road game in 12 tries in the first game of the four game series 15-4. Tommy Everidge batted in five runs on the night with a 3 for night performance that included a two run home run and three runs scored.

Dayton got off to a quick start in the top half of the first inning against starter Joe Scott (W, 3-1). Cody Strait drew a lead off walk, stole second and third and scored on a Tonys Gutierrez sac fly and a very short lived 1-0 lead.

The Cougars picked up a two run home run in both the first and second innings off Dragons starter Omar Segovia (L, 1-1). Everidge gave KC a 2-1 lead with his 10th homer of the season, a shot to left field. In the second inning, Gregorio Petit hit his seventh of the season in almost the same spot in left. The second two run blast of the game gave the Cougars a 4-1 lead.

Dayton could not muster much offense off the Kane County pitching staff on the night. Gutierrez, added his second RBI of the night in the third inning with a single that scored Drew Anderson. The Dragons were blanked by Scott, 6.0 innings, Mike Mitchell (ND) 1.0 inning. Cody Strait picked up a two run home run off Shawn Martinez to close out the game at 15-4.

The scoring in between the Dayton third and ninth innings were all Kane County. The Cougars picked up three runs off Homer Bailey (ND) in the sixth inning to go out in front by a 7-2 score. The first came home on a Bailey balk, the second on an Everidge RBI single and a run scoring ground ball from Jose Pineda.

The Cougars scored six times in the seventh inning off Alexander Farfan (ND), who retired just two hitters before being taken out of the game. Everidge picked up a two RBI double, Travis Buck knocked home a run with a single and Myron Leslie delivered a bases clearing three RBI double to push the score to 13-2.

The Dragons were forced to use a position player on the hill in the bottom of the eighth, as Bradley Key (ND) took the mound. The Cougars picked up two runs off Key to close out the scoring at 15-4.

The Dragons and Kane County continue beginning on Tuesday night. RHP Homer Bailey will make the start for the Dragons in the series opener. Kane County will send LHP Ryan Ford to the mound. The pre game show on 1410 ESPN Radio hits the air at 6:30 PM. Sunday afternoon's first pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
