Raab Goes Distance For Win

August 6, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks ran into old faces at the Cove Saturday night when the Lansing Lugnuts returned after playing in South Bend last weekend. On Monday, South Bend southpaw Kellen Raab was supposed to get the start against the Lugnuts but did not. The Lugnuts may wish they had seen the left-hander whose complete game extended the Hawks winning streak against Lansing to three games as well as the teams overall winning streak in a 5-1 win.

The Silver Hawks used back-to-back innings to power their way to a 4-0 lead. In the second, Wilkin Castillo opened with a single to center field and was followed by Augie Murillo, who homered (13) to center field giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Hawks long ball barrage continued in the next frame when Billy Lockin was hit by pitch and Carlos Gonzales smacked a home run (15) to right field for a 4-0 Silver hawks lead.

Kellen Raab, who started the last game the two teams played last Monday, got the nod again Saturday and pitched well, retiring 10 straight during one stage of the game and after the Lugnuts loaded the bases with consecutive singles in the sixth inning, Raab fanned Aaron Mathews and induced Eric Nielsen to ground into a double play ending the frame.

South Bend's Kellen Raab (5-4) picked up the win while, A.J. Wideman (6-8) suffered the loss.

The Silver Hawks (66-47) continue their four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts (55-55) Sunday. Sunday's are Faiths Day presented by WFRN radio. Bring your church, mosque or synagogue bulletin and receive $2.00 off any ticket. First pitch is slated for 1:30 PM.
