Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake Bees snapped a three-game losing skid in dramatic fashion Monday, with a 5-4 walk-off win on Monday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. In the 11th inning, with the MiLB's new extra-inning runner rule in effect, Ben Revere scored on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Fontana to break a 4-4 tie and give the home team the victory.
The two teams finished the regulation nine innings tied up at 3. In the 10th, Albuquerque was able to cash in on runner Tom Murphy starting at second base, scoring on a single to right field. The Bees responded by loading the bases in the bottom half with Jose Miguel Fernandez coming home to score on a wild pitch to tie the game up. The Isotopes loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 11th, but Bees reliever Vicente Campos got out of the jam inducing two strikeouts and a shallow fly ball to keep the visitors off the board. In the Bees 11th Ben Revere started at second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and then, following an intentional walk, scrambled home on Fontana's sac-fly to give the Bees their first walk-off win of the season.
Campos (1-1) picked up the win for the Bees and Isotopes reliever Keith Hessler (0-1) took the loss. Bees relievers Adam Hofacket, Ralston Cash, Ian Krol and Vicente Campos combined to pitch six and one-third innings, giving up only one unearned run on the extra inning runner. All three runs scored for the Bees in regulation came following a triple as Sherman Johnson, Eric Young Jr. and Michael Hermosillo all hit three baggers and came around to score. Young Jr. finished 3-for-5 to lead Bees batters.
Salt Lake will next travel to El Paso for their first road trip of the season beginning tomorrow. The Bees will be back home to face Sacramento on April 17th at Smith's Ballpark.
