Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Burlington, IA - A three run first inning aided by three Lugnut errors propelled the Burlington Bees to a 3-2 victory over Lansing on Friday night at Community Field. The win capped a four game sweep for the Bees, marking the first time that the Lugnuts have been swept in Burlington since 1999.

Burlington scored all of its runs in the first. After Chris McConnell was hit by a pitch, Carlos Arroyo reached on a fielder's choice that moved McConnell to second base. He came in to score when Jesus Gonzalez committed Lansing's first error on a ground ball that moved Arroyo to second base and allowed Kiel Thibault to reach. During the play, a throwing error by Brian Pettway allowed both Arroyo and Thibault to move up a base. JP Lowen's sacrifice fly plated Arroyo to make the score 2-0. Jeremy Jirschele then singled to right to score Thibault to push the lead to 3-0. Lansing committed a season high five errors in the contest.

Lansing scratched a run across in the fourth inning when Jacob Butler hooked a homer just inside the pole down the left field line to make the score 3-1.

The Lugnuts clawed to within one run in the seventh when Cory Patton doubled and scored later on a David Hicks sacrifice fly to close the gap to 3-2.

Lansing had a chance in the eighth when they put runners at second and third, but they failed to plate either runner in the inning.

Lansing (23-17) will return home to Oldsmobile Park on Saturday night to open a four game series with the Fort Wayne Wizards. LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game on Saturday, which is set to start at 7:05 p.m.
