Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks tonight by a score of 4-2. With the win the Rays and Hawks split the four game series.
Mike Wlodarczyk is the best pitcher in the Midwest League and he proved it by pitching seven shutout innings allowing only three hits with four strikeouts. Wlodarczyk hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 38 2/3 innings dating back to April 22nd against Cedar Rapids. His league leading ERA was lowered to an astonishing .082.
Kevin Lynn and Greg Dupas pitched the eighth and ninth inning respectively. Their performance was almost identical with each picking up one strikeout while allowing one hit and one run.
Garrett Groce batted well from the lead off position picking up two hits and scoring two runs. J.T. Hall continued to be the anchor for the Devil Rays offense by going 1-3 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored.
C.O. Brown Stadium was electric tonight as over 1700 fans showed up for the first of ten fireworks shows this season. The crowd was entertained by the Tex-Mex band Los Bandits before the game to set the mood for Hispanic Night. Area Boy Scouts were also in attendance to show their support for the Rays.
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays play again tomorrow when the Dayton Dragons come to town for a four game series. It is Armed Forces Night at C.O. Brown and the Devil Rays will proudly recognize all our troops at home and abroad with a night dedicated to all branches of the US Military. Various military groups will be on hand with recruiting tables and displays. The Krazy Karacters will also perform with their krazy mascot antics courtesy of Battle Creek Shopper and Q-106.5 FM.
