Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL -- Kane County Cougar starting pitcher Jared Lansford, the reigning Midwest League pitcher of the week, gave up one hit in six shutout innings for his third win of the season. Kane County scored all five runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium.

The Cougars (23-18) made Rattler starting pitcher Ruben Flores pay for a bout of wildness in the bottom of the second inning. Jeff Baisley reached on a four-pitch walk to start the inning. He would score on a single by Jose Pineda.

Flores walked Steve Kleen and Isaac Omura to load the bases. Justin Sellers singled in two runs for a 3-0 lead. A wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position. Then, Mike Massaro singled in Omura and Sellers for a 5-0 lead.

Lansford, who pitched 7-inning no-hitter at Beloit in his last start, ran his hitless streak to 12-2/3 innings until Eddy Hernandez laced a two-out double to left in the top of the fifth inning.

Lansford worked a scoreless sixth inning and turned over the game to the Cougar bullpen with a 5-0 lead.

Wisconsin (17-24) got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning against Brad Kilby. Kilby, who pitched a scoreless seventh and retired the first two batters of the eighth, gave up three straight singles. Ron Garth had the final single in that sequence to drive in Jeff Dominguez with the run.

Joe Newby relieved Kilby and struck out Curt Ledbetter to end the threat. Newby walked Casey Craig to start the Rattler ninth inning, but got the next three Rattlers easily for his first save of the season.

The Rattlers return home to begin for a four game series with the Burlington Bees on Saturday night. Wisconsin has Jose Escalona (4-2, 3.48ERA) as the scheduled starting pitcher. Burlington plans on Chad Henninger (1-2, 5.59ERA). Game time is 6:35pm. The first fireworks display of the season at Fox Cities Stadium will take place after the game.
