
Bees Headed To Playoffs for 2nd Year in a Row

Burlington, IA (September 3, 2009) - The Burlington Bees are headed for the playoffs for the second year in a row after defeating Clinton 3-1 Thursday night at Community Field. With the win, the Bees clinch the 2nd half Western division wild-card and will face Kane County in a three-game series beginning Wednesday night at Community Field.
The Bees opened the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. With one out Adrian Ortiz singled and then stole second. David Wood then doubled to score Ortiz and give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
The Bees added to their lead scoring two runs in the second inning. Jose Bonilla led the inning off with a walk and moved to third on a Jason Morales double. Ryan Wood then singled to score Bonilla and Morales and the Bees led 3-0. The final run of the night was scored by Clinton in the top of the seventh inning.
Sam Runion got the start and the win to move to 5-11 this season. Runion pitched one of his best games of the season allowing just two hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 5.1 innings. Tony Pena pitched 2.2 innings allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout for his second hold of the season. Blaine Hardy picked up his ninth hold of the season allowing just one hit in one inning of work.
The Bees outhit Clinton 8-4. David Wood went 3-4 with an RBI. Ryan Wood went 2-3 with two RBI.
The Bees open the playoffs at home against Kane County on Wednesday night. Tickets for the game will go on sale Friday morning at 10:00. Tickets will also be sold at Friday night's game.
The Bees conclude the series on Friday night at Community Field. Tim Melville is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at Community Field.
