Bees Fend off Snappers, 8-4

Beloit, WI- The Burlington Bees (7-7) picked up their second straight win, knocking off the Beloit Snappers (5-10) by the score of 8-4 on Friday night at Pohlman Field.

The Bees scored first for the second consecutive game. Jahmai Jones started the game by walking on four pitches. After a stolen base and a strikeout, Jones came home to score on a wild pitch, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Brennan Morgan was hit by a pitch, scoring Zimmerman, extending the Bees' lead to 2-0.

Beloit's defense helped the Bees offense in the second. Jordan Serena started the inning by reaching on a two base error. Jordan Zimmerman reached on another Beloit error, scoring Serena, upping the Bees' lead to 3-0.

With two outs in the fourth, Jahmai Jones belted a solo home run to left, his team leading third home run of the season, pushing the Bees' lead to 4-0. The next batter, Brennon Lund, reached on a throwing error and then came home to score on a Zimmerman single, making the score 5-0.

Beloit was able to push across their first run of the game in the fifth. JaVon Shelby led off the inning with a double and then scored on a two-out double from Kyle Nowlin, cutting the Bees' lead to 5-1. The Snappers inched closer in the seventh when they started the bottom half with three straight singles, producing their second run of the game. Nate Mondou then reached on an infield single, scoring Shelby, cutting the Bees advantage to 5-3. Mike Kaelin was able to keep the tying run on base by striking out Miguel Mercedes to end the inning.

Beloit trimmed the Bees' lead to one in the eighth. With a runner at second and one out, Trace Loehr doubled to left, scoring Luis Barrera, making the score 5-4. With the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second, with two outs, Nathan Bates struck out Cole Gruber, keeping the Bees in front.

The Bees added three big insurance runs in the eighth thanks to a fielder's choice, a RBI single by Brennan Morgan, and a double steal, extending the lead to four at 8-4. Nathan Bates retired Beloit in order to secure the Bees' victory.

Bees' starter Joe Gatto (2-0) earned the win while Dakota Chalmers (0-1) was charged with the loss for Beloit. Nathan Bates (1) earned the save.

The Burlington Bees and the Beloit Snappers will continue the series on Satruday afternoon at 4:00 pm at Pohlman Field. Erik Monoah makes the start for the Bees, his second of the season, and will be opposed by Matt Milburn for the Beloit Snappers.
