Bandits Use Strong Pitching to Win Fifth Straight

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The River Bandits won their fifth straight game Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Clinton Lumberkings. Quad Cities received strong pitching performances from starter Brett Adcock and reliever Edgardo Sandoval, combining to limit Clinton to just two hits. Home runs from Spencer Johnson and Marcos Almonte provided the scoring for Quad Cities.

Johnson broke a scoreless tie with a solo shot off of Clinton starter Nick Wells in the bottom of the second inning. The Lumberkings (6-9) tied the score the following half inning after Anthony Jimenez tripled then scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryson Brigman. In the bottom of the fifth, Almonte hit his third home run for Quad Cities (9-6) to put the Bandits ahead for good.

Adcock left in the fourth with two outs, falling one out short of earning the win. The lefty went 4.2 innings, allowed one run, two hits and struck out six. Sandoval (2-1) came on in relief and did not allow a LumberKings hit in the final 4.1 innings. Sandoval retired 13 of the 14 batters he faced. Nick Wells took the loss for the LumberKings. Wells (0-1) finished the fifth, but took the loss after allowing three Bandits runs.

Game three of the four game series between Quad Cities and Clinton continues Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park at 1:15 p.m. RHP Enoli Paredes (0-0, 3.00) takes the mound for the Bandits. Paredes will oppose Clinton RHP Ljay Newsome (2-1, 5.40).
