Asheville Tourists News Release
BEER CITY-- Thirsty Thursday had a special feel at McCormick Field tonight as the Beer City Tourists took the field against the Lakewood BlueClaws. Beer City was looking to accomplish something they had not done all season; win their second straight home game. The Tourists did so in style with an 8-5 victory over the BlueClaws.
Beer City had to play come-from-behind after Lakewood took a 4-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. The Tourists plated the game's next seven runs and withstood a small ninth inning rally to pick up the win.
Manny Melendez led off the first inning with a Home Run to right field. Lakewood tied the score on David Martinelli's third inning solo shot. The BlueClaws added an unearned run in the fourth and Henri Lartigue's two-run Home Run made it 4-1.
Vince Fernandez crushed a two-run Homer to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth to bring Beer City back within a run. The Tourists took the lead in the sixth with an impressive rally. Robbie Perkins doubled home a run to tie the game and later scored on a Melendez single.
In the seventh, Carlos Herrera doubled home Max George and Perkins added a two-run long ball. Melendez and Fernandez each had three hits while Herrera, Perkins, and Joel Diaz finished with two hits. Brandon Gold did not factor in the decision although the Tourists starting pitcher looked sharp.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday night at McCormick Field. The first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
