KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Micker Adolfo homered in the second inning to give Kannapolis a lead it would not relinquish, as the Intimidators defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 on Thursday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (29-23) picked up its third win in a row as Adolfo collected his third home run of the season, a blast that traveled 418 feet to left field.
On the mound, Jimmy Lambert earned the win. Lambert (6-2) recorded his team-leading seventh quality start going 6.0 innings and allowing one run on nine hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Kyle Kubat recorded his second save of the season striking out five batters in 1 and 2/3 scoreless frames of work. Greensboro starter Jordan Holloway (1-2) took the loss allowing two runs on one hit with five strikeouts. Holloway exited after 2 and 2/3 innings due to injury.
Adolfo, who was named the White Sox Minor League Player of the Month earlier on Thursday, finished 1-for-3, helping Kannapolis to a win despite being outhit 11-4.
Leading 1-0 after two innings, the Intimidators added two more runs in the bottom of the third when the I's rallied with two outs. Joel Booker was hit by a pitch and stole second base, allowing Jameson Fisher to drive him in on a single. After a single from Mitch Roman advanced Fisher to third, a wild pitch scored Fisher making it 3-0 Kannapolis.
Greensboro answered with lone runs in the fourth and seventh innings, both surrendered after leadoff doubles making the score 3-2.
Kannapolis continues its four-game homestand with the second game of a four-game series against Greensboro on Friday night as RHP Yosmer Solorzano (1-4, 5.81 ERA) takes the mound against Grasshoppers' RHP Dustin Beggs (3-4, 3.02 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Friday features a salute to A.L.
