Beef Look for Win to Begin Home Stand
April 8, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Omaha Beef News Release
After a tough road loss Sunday at Sioux Falls, the Beef (2-2) return home to the Civic Auditorium Saturday night to host the Wichita Wild. Kickoff is at 7:05pm. The night is also Teacher Appreciation Night with teachers getting in for just $10 when they show their school ID.
While the Wild (0-4) had their best passing night of the season last week, their ground game is their strength.
"They've got a pretty good running attack so we're going to have to shut down," Beef coach Andy Yost said. "Defensively, we're coming off a pretty good game against Sioux Falls. We need to build on that."
A week ago, the Beef held undefeated Sioux Falls to just 223 yards of total offense while gaining 276 of their own. A blocked field goal returned for a touchdown early in the third quarter changed the tide in the 48-38 loss for Omaha.
The Beef led for less than a minute late in the first half and had to play from behind most the game.
"We're looking for consistency," Yost said. "We improved as the game went on. We just need to start at that level and continue from that on. We've got to come out sharp."
Part of that will come offensively, as Omaha tries to get the Indoor Football League's third leading rusher R.J. Rollins more involved in the offense.
"We watched a little more film (this week)," Yost said. "We put some new stuff in on the goal line, in our red zone package. We want to keep R.J. involved and make the defense play honest. If we can get two or three yards and keep them honest, we're doing our job."
Yost said that Wichita runs zone defense very well and is hoping fan favorite QB James McNear can do some things to exploit that.
"We put some stuff in that will adjust to their zones," Yost said. "We've got a couple new wrinkles to the offense that will hopefully force their hand in these zones and make them play man."
After a game on the road, Yost commented on the big advantage of being back at the Slaughter House.
"Those bus trips aren't exactly luxury air liners," Yost joked. "It's a tremendous advantage with the crowd. When we're on defense, they get us going. When we're on offense, they're right behind us. Between guys sleeping in own beds, having good meals and not riding in a cramped bus, it's a great advantage."
Yost and his team look to use this stretch of three home games in four weeks to set themselves up for the rest of the season.
"We hope to get a run put together, get back on the winning track, and get on a playoff run."
