Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/7/11 - The Amarillo Venom have stayed busy on and off the field this week as they went to Carver Academy to pass out certificates to students who did extra academic work over Spring Break.
Students gathered in the school's auditorium for daily announcements and excitement erupted from students when the Venom players were announced for the special presentation.
"I think it is important to reward these students for their extra work," said Joe Morgado, the Venom's General Manager. "Maybe this came at the right time. We have been struggling and our players can learn from these students that extra work pays off."
Venom defensive back Cashmin Thomas, defensive back Darrius Battles, fullback Landrick Brody, and lineman Kendrick Thompson, handed out certificates to students who were recognized one-by-one for their extra work. Students who received certificates stayed around after the ceremony to get their certificates autographed and to take pictures with players.
Carver Academy staff is hoping the Venom's appearance will encourage and motivate students to continue working hard and putting in the extra work.
The Venom players are putting in extra work on the practice field as they host the Colorado Ice this week in a rematch. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The Coors Light Tailgate party on the corner of Johnson and 3rd Street will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
