
Roughnecks Fall Short To Wranglers In Allen, 33-28

MIDLAND, TX.: The West Texas Roughnecks (4-2) fell short to the Allen Wranglers (4-2) on Friday evening, April 8, from the Allen Event Center 33-28. Trailing 27-21 in the fourth quarter, Roughnecks QB Arkelon Hall recorded a four-yard touchdown run on fourth down and goal to give the Roughnecks a 28-27 lead with under two minutes remaining in the game. The Wranglers would answer with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Wranglers QB Kewan Dewberry to WR Dedrick Poole, giving Allen a 33-28 lead with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. The Roughnecks had one last shot at the end-zone with eight seconds left but an Arkelon Hall pass to the end-zone fell incomplete resulting in the 33-28 loss.
The first-half featured plenty of defense between both teams as the Wranglers opened the game leading 3-0 after Garrett Courtney recorded a 26-yard field goal. The Wranglers would extend their lead to 5-0 as a Roughnecks field goal attempt was blocked in the end-zone resulting in a safety as the ball went out of the back of the end-zone. Courtney would tack on another field goal to give the Wranglers an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Roughnecks would get on the board in the second quarter as Arkelon Hall found WR Josh Floyd for a 19-yard touchdown pass cutting the Allen lead to 8-7. The Roughnecks would force a few missed field goals later on in the second quarter, however Allen tacked on another Garrett Courtney field goal making it 11-7 at halftime.
The Roughnecks opened the second-half by taking their first lead of the game with a nine-yard shovel pass for a touchdown from Arkelon Hall to Josh Floyd making it 14-11 Roughnecks. Allen would quickly counter with a one-yard touchdown run from WR Dedrick Poole as the Wranglers retook the lead at 18-14. The Roughnecks would close out the third quarter with an eight-play, 35-yard drive capped off with a five-yard touchdown run by RB Evin Jones, making it 21-18 Roughnecks.
Allen would tie the game early in the fourth quarter as kicker Garrett Courtney recorded a 50-yard field goal making it 21-21. The only turnover of the game was recorded on the next drive as Wranglers DB Joey Longoria intercepted Arkelon Hall setting up a three-yard touchdown pass from Kewan Dewberry to Bobby Chase making it 27-21 Wranglers. The Roughnecks would put together another key drive going 36 yards in seven plays capping it off with a four-yard touchdown run by Arkelon Hall on fourth down and goal, giving the Roughnecks a 28-27 lead.
Allen would counter with a late drive that ended with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Kewan Dewberry to wide out Dedrick Poole. Following a missed two-point conversion attempt, Allen held the lead at 33-28 with under one minute remaining in the game. On the final drive of the game, the Roughnecks converted a few first downs through the air, but on fourth down and ten from inside Wranglers territory, Arkelon Hall's pass to the end-zone fell incomplete resulting in the 33-28 win for Allen.
The Roughnecks will return home next week to host the Omaha Beef on Saturday, April 16 as the Allen Wranglers will travel to Nebraska next week to face the Danger on Saturday, April 16.
