West Texas Roughnecks News Release
The Roughnecks would like to thank all media representatives News9, CBS7, KMID2, FOX24, and Odessa American for attending a news conference at Olive Garden in Midland, news conference began at 2pm.
The West Texas Roughnecks discussed this weekend's game versus Corpus Christi, the Wall of Fame Night & post game Concert, and Saturday night's first 1000 fans giveaway.
This weekend's match up and every game from here on is a must win for the team. With Houston being out and a new schedule produced our organization is only 2 games out of first even though Roughnecks are currently ranked last. This shows how competitive this league really is. "I am happy to say we are currently only two games away from first place and then we a have chance to make the playoffs. This organization has been in the playoffs every year save one in 2009 and of course every season since I have been involved", stated Dale Morris GM. "We have an opportunity to control our own destiny, with a 1 and 1 record against Rio Grande Valley who is currently ranked number one and the chance to go there next week and get another one not to mention the fact that this weekend we can get one back from Corpus we really control where we go from here," Morris is very optimistic.
This Saturday's game is the Wall of Fame game and keeping with the tradition of excellence Roughnecks will be honoring former coach Chris Williams for his eight year tenure and his commitment to the community not to mention a winning record of 71 wins and 32 losses. Chris Williams unfortunately is unable to attend this Saturdays game as he is coaching the New Mexico Stars team in Albuquerque. However coach Williams will be providing an acceptance speech to share everyone. "I am proud to have had the time I did with Coach Williams, he is not only a good coach, but a good friend as well. I wish all the success in whatever he does," proclaimed Morris GM/Owner.
Roughnecks have partnered with News9 for the past two season to bring the community West Texas has got Talent contest. This contest is held at Music City Mall each year around Jan. - Feb. and 6 finalist are chosen to perform at halftime during the Roughnecks Season. A grand prize is given to the top performer. The top performer this year was given autographed jersey, football, and $500 cash prize, and this year's top performance was a 12yr lead guitar and lead singer a 8yr drummer and a 6yr bass player called the Hybrid Sons. The Hybrid Sons will be performing this Saturday at halftime and as their fathers have a band we will host a post game concert by the Hybrid Father & Sons.
"These guys just blew all of us away this year and I personally think they should have made the cut on Americas Got Talent tryouts", exclaimed Dale Morris Owner/GM.
The Roughnecks are offering all General Admission tickets free of charge while supplies last for this final regular season home game. Head Coach Brian Brents, and Owner/ GM Dale Morris were available to questions and interviews immediately following the news conference. Please RSVP by simply replying via email or call 432.563.5425.
