
Beebe Backed by Four Homers in First Professional Victory

SAUGET, IL - The Tri-City ValleyCats (13-12) launched a season-high four homers to take the series opener 9-5 over the Gateway Grizzlies (18-6), and provide starter Dan Bebee with a win in his professional debut at Grizzlies Ballpark on Friday.
Trey Hair smoked a solo homer off Joey Gonzalez in the second to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead.
Pavin Parks and Cito Culver each worked a walk in the third as Carson McCusker ripped a three-run jack to pull the ValleyCats ahead, 4-0.
Hair notched his second multi-homer performance of the season as he lifted another solo shot in the sixth to put Tri-City on top, 5-0.
Gateway got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Gabe Holt led off the frame with a double off Beebe. Clint Freeman knocked in Holt with a base hit to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Tri-City stormed back in the seventh. Jakob Goldfarb laced a double off Ben Krizen. Goldfarb moved to third on a wild pitch and McCusker walked. Zach Biermann opened the floodgates with a three-run blast to give the 'Cats an 8-1 advantage.
The Grizzlies retaliated in the home half of the seventh. D.J. Stewart picked up a single off Greg Veliz. Abdiel Diaz knocked in Stewart with a double. Holt added in a two-bagger of his own to make it a 8-3 game.
The ValleyCats manufactured a run in the eighth to extend their lead to 9-3. Cameron Johnson hit Jaxon Hallmark with a pitch. Hallmark swiped second, and came around to score on an error from Gateway's catcher, Willie Estrada.
Gateway continued to show life in the bottom of the eighth. Jairus Richards singled and stole second off Parks. Stewart brought in Richards with a single. Stewart advanced to second on a passed ball, and Estrada went to first on a walk. Diaz greeted Reymin Guduan with a single to load the bases. Holt reached on a fielder's choice to notch his second RBI of the night to cut the deficit to 9-5. Guduan finished off the game as he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.
Beebe (1-0) earned the win. The Palm Beach Atlantic University product hurled 5.1 innings, yielding one run on six hits, walking none, and striking out five.
Gonzalez (3-2) received the loss in his first start against the ValleyCats after he was their ace last season. The right-hander tossed six frames, allowing five runs on five hits, walking four, and striking out seven.
The ValleyCats continue their three game road trip against the Grizzlies tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 PM EDT.
