
Beavers silence \'Birds bats

Memphis, Tenn. - Portland's pitching shut down Memphis in a 3-0 Beavers win Friday night in front of 11,006 fans at AutoZone Park.
Chris Carpenter took the loss for Memphis allowing two runs in 5.2 innings in his first rehab appearance for the Redbirds. The former Cy Young Award winner struck out the side on 11 pitches in the first inning before surrendering single runs in the second and third frames. He finished the night allowing four hits, one walk and fanning five batters on 78 pitches, 53 strikes.
Josh Geer earned the win with seven scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered two hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn Portland a split of the four-game series. Kevin Cameron pitched the final two frames to notch his first save of the year. Peter Ciofrone, Paul McAnulty and Vincent Sinisi all had two hits for the Beavers with Ciofrone and McAnulty driving in runs.
One night after scoring a season-high 15 runs the Redbirds offense had just four hits in being shutout for the second time this season. David Freese had his 10-game hit streak snapped going 0-for-4.
Memphis welcomes Tacoma to town tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Joe Woerman gets the nod for the Rainiers against Redbirds right-hander Anthony Reyes. Memphis Wrestling will be in the park to tape a show following the game.
