Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - On Sunday, Aug. 3, the Portland Beavers are teaming with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Health Net to "Strike out Breast Cancer" when the team plays host to the Round Rock Express at 2:05 p.m. at PGE Park.
As the Beavers continue to help in the fight to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease, the team will don special jerseys among the many activities to take place during the "Strike out Breast Cancer" event. The team will wear unique, pink-ribbon jerseys - a pink jersey that features the team's new Vintage Sunday "P" in navy blue with blue piping and the signature Komen ribbon on the sleeve.
As part of the team's efforts to help raise funds to fight the disease, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women ages 40-59, the Beavers will be conducting a silent auction before and during the Aug. 3 game, with each of the authentic, game-worn jerseys being presented to winning bidders following the game.
Last season, the Beavers raised more than $4,300 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure through a similar auction. Funds raised from the silent auction and other activities at this year's game will directly benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure Oregon & S.W. Washington Affiliate.
In addition, Health Net will present a check for $10,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Health Net has partnered with the Beavers all season to donate $25 for each home strikeout by a Portland pitcher.
The first 1,903 fans in attendance at the Aug. 3 game will receive a pink T-shirt, courtesy of Health Net. Gates open at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (503) 224-4400. For discounted group packages, contact the Beavers at (503) 553-5555.
To show support of the foundation's efforts or survivors in their lives, fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink attire or their Komen Race for the Cure T-shirts. This year's Komen Portland Race for the Cure, which is part of the largest series of 5K runs in the world, will be held Sunday, Sept. 21. For more information, go to www.komenoregon.org.
