Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today kicked off the 2nd annual Beattie Homes Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign.

The campaign, which raised over $22,000 last year, features a three stage approach to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Hitmen game worn black and pink jerseys along with game worn pink and black gloves will be auctioned online by clicking the link at hitmenhockey.com or directly through Elevate Auctions at www.elevateauctions.com/hockeymums. The auction begins February 25th and closes March 9th.

Both the jerseys and gloves will be worn at the upcoming Beattie Homes Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Game on Sunday, March 13th when the Hitmen host the Red Deer Rebels. Game time is 2:00 pm at Scotiabank Saddledome. The game will culminate with a Hitmen head shave with several players going under the razor. Fans with the winning bid in the game worn jersey auction will also be presented with their jersey and gloves following the game as part of Jersey Off Our Backs.

In addition there will also be a Skate-A-Thon at the Olympic Oval on Sunday, March 6th from 12:00 to 4:30 pm where fans can skate with the Hitmen. A minimum pledge of $20 is required with prizes for the most money raised including an autographed Matt MacKenize Hitmen breast cancer jersey. All fans who raise $20 or more will also receive one ticket to the March 13th Breast Cancer game. Skate-A-Thon pledge forms can be printed online at hitmenhockey.com. Hitmen fans should bring their registration forms and donations to the Olympic Oval on March 6th.

"The Calgary Hitmen are very excited to once again have Beattie Homes, our players, staff and all Hitmen fans join in the fight against breast cancer," comments Mike Moore, Hitmen Director of Business Operations. "The Beattie Homes Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign is an exciting promotion that is important in raising awareness of this threat to women's health. Our goal is to make a significant contribution to support breast cancer research with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for this disease."

"The staff and ownership at Beattie Homes is very proud to be associated with this worthwhile cause," explains Beattie Homes Vice President, Operations Brad Cuthbertson. "We already have a huge personal commitment to raising funds and providing financial assistance to patients dealing with leukemia, through the Bill Beattie Memorial Fund. This focus is in perfect alignment with The Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer campaign, and the tremendous effort that these volunteers put into fundraising."

"Cancers of all types affect every one of us at some point in our lives, and it is through the combined efforts of organizations such as the Calgary Hitmen and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation that remedies and assistance will be found," added Cuthbertson.

"It means so much to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation that for the second year in a row Beattie Homes and the Hitmen are both taking the initiative to bring the breast cancer cause to their supporters and fans, raising awareness and getting our vision of creating a future without breast cancer out to a whole new demographic," says Tamara Smith, Manager, Urban & Rural Partnerships Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "We believe working towards a future free from breast cancer is a team effort that takes the spirit of breast cancer survivors and their families to share stories of triumph and loss so that researchers can understand how this disease impacts the lives of those is touches."
