Blazers Fly by T-Birds

Kamloops, BC,February 9, 2011 - The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-1 Wednesday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Kamloops (24-30-2-1) took a 1-0 lead at 1:17 of the first period on a goal by Dylan Willick. Brendan Ranford and Jordan DePape had the assists.

The Blazers took a 2-0 lead at 4:04 of the first when Colin Smith scored. JT Barnett and Thomas Frazee assisted on the goal.

Josh Caron made it a 3-0 Kamloops lead at 4:23 of the first. Willick had the only assist on the goal.

Seattle (19-27-4-5) got on the board at 4:48 of the first on Jake Doty's fourth goal of the year. Defenseman Brenden Dillon moved the puck up the right side of the ice to Doty. Doty carried the puck into the right circle and put a hard wrist shot on goal. Doty's shot beat Kamloops goalie Jeff Bosch over the shoulder on the stick side.

JC Lipon made it a 4-1 Blazers lead at 12:33 of the first with his second goal of the season. Dalibor Bortnak and Ryan Hanes were credited with assists on the goal.

The Blazers extended the lead to 5-1 at 17:41 of the first on a goal from Bortnak. DePape and Barnett had the assists.

Kamloops outshot Seattle 21-10 in the first period.

Bortnak scored a power-play goal at 12:11 of the second period to give the Blazers a 6-1 lead. Bronson Maschmeyer and Colin Smith had the assists.

The Blazers led 35-22 in shots after two periods by outshooting the T-Birds 14-12 in the second period.

Michael Salmon replaced Calvin Pickard in Seattle's net with just over eight minutes left in the game. Pickard stopped 32 of 38 shots and his record fell to 19-24-3-4.

The Blazers outshot the T-Birds 43-33 in the game.

Salmon stopped all five shots he faced.

Bosch made 32 saves on 33 shots and his record is now 20-17-2-0.

The T-Birds take on the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday at ShoWare Center at 7:05 p.m. They close out the weekend against the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday at ShoWare Center at 5:05 p.m.

The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
