Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast announced today the signing of 6'2", 180-pound goaltender Ryan Demelo.
Demelo, a native of Brampton, Ontario, spent his last four years with Elmira College of the ECAC West, finishing with a 3.36 GAA and .907 save percentage through 46 career games. Last season, Demelo was a brick wall in helping his team win an ECAC-W championship over Utica, and was named to the ECAC West All-Tournament Team in addition to being selected as the ECAC West Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
More impressively, Demelo has shown consistent improvement over his last three seasons in raising his save percentage from 0.881 to 0.924, while lowering his GAA from 3.95 to 2.84 in his final year.
Prior to heading to college, Demelo suited up for two seasons with the North York Rangers of the OJHL, where he was named league MVP in his final year and finished with a 24-17-2 record playing in 44 of the club's 50 games. Nine times throughout the 2010-2011 season Demelo was named the game's first star, and in 16 shootout attempts faced that year he made 15 saves.
The Beast have traded goaltender Grant Rollheiser to the Wichita Thunder for future considerations. In 31 games this season, Rollheiser was 8-17-0 with a 0.902 save percentage and team-leading 3.58 GAA. He leaves the Beast as the franchise leader in games played (61), wins (23), minutes (3108) and saves (1661).
Catch Demelo in action when the Beast return home to the Powerade Centre this weekend for a three-game homestand beginning Friday, March 6 at 7:30 pm for Star Wars Night. The Beast players wearing unique Star Wars jerseys to be auctioned after the game and the 501st Canadian Legion will be in attendance. The fun continues on Sunday, March 8 with fans having the opportunity to meet their favourite Brampton Thunder players on Women's Hockey Day at 2:00 pm.
