Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (36-19-0-3) came back from three goals down twice before taking the Bakersfield Condors (23-25-3-5) down in overtime, 6-5, Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
After 4:05 of hockey, Condors forward Austin Block cut across the slot, firing a low shot beating Eagles goaltender Aaron Crandall under his right leg pad to give Bakersfield the early 1-0 advantage. Bakersfield defenseman Nick Pageau would continue the scoring with 5:38 remaining in the first frame when he fired a slapshot from the left circle, ringing off of the crossbar behind Crandall to pad the Condors lead, 2-0. Bakersfield forward Jordan Kremyr would find the back of the net on the power play again just 1:41 later, deflecting a shot past Crandall, extending the lead to 3-0.
The Eagles took a step towards a comeback 3:21 into the second period when forward Chris Duszynski hammered home a rebound past Bakersfield netminder Frans Tuohimaa, resulting in a 3-1 deficit. Forward Greg Gardner brought the Eagles within one score with 10:24 remaining in the second off of a steal which he buried below Tuohimaa's glove.
Less than a minute into the third, the Condors answered as forward Jonathan Lessard beat Crandall from the left circle to extend the Condors lead to two, 4-2. Fifty-eight seconds later, Condors forward Nick MacNeil followed his own rebound, once again giving the Condors a three goal lead, 5-2. Colorado hadn't run out of fight as forward Trent Daavettila scored his third goal in two games to pull the Eagles within two again, 5-3. With 5:24 remaining in the contest, forward Jordan Kwas had the Eagles one goal back after tapping home a rebound past an outstretched Tuohimaa. Colorado's comeback was completed when forward Chris Knowlton used his signature move, cutting across the slot, and beating Tuohimaa high to tie the game at 5.
Overtime lasted three minutes and thirty five seconds. Eagles defenseman Vitalijs Pavlovs launched a rocket from the point past a screened Tuohimaa to give the Eagles a 6-5 overtime victory, gaining a valuable two points in the Pacific Division. Jordan Kwas recorded his second three-point game of the season and first Gordie Howe hat trick, adding two assists to his fight and third period gem.
