Carey and Lee Reassigned to the Glads

DULUTH, Ga. - The Portland Pirates, AHL affiliate of the Gwinnett Gladiators, announced that forward Greg Carey and goaltender Mike Lee were reassigned from Portland to Gwinnett on Thursday. For both players, this is their third assignment to the Gladiators this season.

Carey, 24, has played in 14 games with the Gladiators this year, averaging over a point per game (17 points; 10 goals, seven assists). He has also tallied two of the Gladiators' three hat tricks this season, one on November 9th against South Carolina, and another on January 23rd against Florida, the two teams Gwinnett will be playing this weekend.

The Hamilton, Ontario native has played in 29 games with the Pirates this season, with two goals and six assists. Carey played in 13 games with Portland last year at the conclusion of his four-year career with St. Lawrence University. While with the Saints, Carey was a Hobey Baker finalist his junior and senior seasons as one of the top NCAA point scorers in the country (12-13: 4th, 51 pts; 13-14: 3rd, 57 pts).

Lee, 24, has played in five games for the Gladiators this season, with a 2.98 GAA and a .897 SV%. This is Lee's third year with the Gladiators after making his professional debut with the team in 2012. A third round (91st overall) selection of the Coyotes in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Lee was recalled directly from Gwinnett to Arizona on January 15th, the first time a Gladiator reached the NHL in the same season since 2009.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound netminder has also played in two games with the Pirates this season. Before his 2012 debut with the Gladiators, the Roseau, Minnesota native played for three seasons with St. Cloud State, with his best season coming in his final year there. He had a 2.23 GAA, a .930 SV%, and one shutout in 2011-12.

To accommodate space on the roster for Carey and Lee, forwards Dylan Smoskowitz and James McEwan were released from their SPC's. In addition, rookie forward Dyson Stevenson was recalled to the Portland Pirates of the AHL and traded to Bridgeport on Monday.

Both Lee and Carey will join the Gladiators in time for their next game in North Charleston, SC as they take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, March 6th at 7:05 p.m. The next Gladiators home contest will be on Saturday, March 7th when they host the Stingrays for $5 Frenzy Night: Mesh Replica Jerseys at 7:05 p.m.
