Reichard Stops 51 Shots in Loss to Idaho

March 5, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

Boise, ID - Stockton Thunder goaltender Cody Reichard stops 51 shots over the course of Wednesday's contest with the Idaho Steelheads, but it wasn't enough as the Steelheads defeat the Thunder 7-2 at CenturyLink Arena. Reichard's 51 saves are the most by any Thunder netminder this season, as Tyler Shattock and Vinny Scarsella provided the offense with a power-play goal each. However, some fortunate bounces and a flurry of shots on goal tilted the ice in Idaho's favor as they come away with the victory. The Thunder and Steelheads will meet up once again Friday night in Boise for the second installation of a three-game series.

Quotes

"We were short, but we made mistakes all over the ice tonight and the puck ends up in the back of the net. We knew we had to come in here and play a solid all-around game, but we gave them way too many transition opportunities. We knew coming in that that's the kind of team they are and that they have a lot of talented guys that can score." - Head Coach Rich Kromm on having the short bench and his thoughts on the game in general.

"It was a big goal for us and a huge momentum shifter obviously. Unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on it. We let them come to us right off the hop in the second period and it just wasn't the way we wanted to respond." - Coach Kromm on Tyler Shattock's power-play goal to end the first period.

"We weren't playing a good game and we only had a few stretches in their end where we were able to put some pressure on them. Other than that, we back on our heels most of the night. Give them credit because they came at us with speed and backed us off. They stretched us out and opened up the ice, and we just didn't respond." - Coach Kromm on the crazy third goal scored off a dump in for Idaho.

"It's up there for sure. It's a lot of work and that's a good team over there. They came out hard on us tonight." - Goaltender Cody Reichard on his 51-save night and where it ranks for him as far as amount of saves is concerned.

"They went to rim it around the boards and I guess there's a door over on the side wall. It must've caught the separation between the door and the glass, and once it gets up on the glass here it gets real dark and makes it tough to see the puck. I thought it was going around the net and next thing I know it beats me far side." - Reichard on the weird bounce the puck took off the wall.
