Bears Recall Bobby Shea from Stingrays

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that defenseman Bobby Shea has been recalled from the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Shea, 25, was a member of the Bears' fall training camp squad before heading to South Carolina, where he has posted 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 31 games. Shea is currently tied for the team scoring lead among defensemen, leads the team in penalty minutes (84) and ranks second in plus-minus (+14).

The 5-11, 195-pound native of Harrison Township, Michigan split last season between the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers and the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs. He notched 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 36 games with the Nailers, and five points (one goal, four assists) in 24 games with the Bulldogs.

Shea was a member of the Reading Royals' 2013 Kelly Cup championship team during the club's affiliation with Hershey, joining the squad after his senior year at Bowling Green State University (CCHA). In four years with the Falcons, Shea has recorded 36 points (nine goals, 27 assists) and 239 penalty minutes in 139 career games. He earned a CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman nomination and was selected to the CCHA All-Conference Second Team in 2012-13.

Shea has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 53 AHL games with Rockford and Hamilton, and 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 90 ECHL games with Reading, Wheeling and South Carolina.
