Cleveland Monsters News Release
TORONTO - In the second of four meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters were defeated by the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on Thursday by a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 17-10-2-2 overall this season and with a .613 points percentage, dropped to fourth place alone in the AHL's Central Division standings.
Josh Leivo staked the Marlies to a 1-0 lead at 8:35 of the opening period before Michael Paliotta tied the game at one for the Monsters at 10:44 on feeds from Steve Weinstein and Michael Chaput. The Marlies rallied with a T.J. Brennan power-play goal at 13:43, but Lake Erie tied the game for the second time with just 13 seconds left in period one thanks to a shorthanded Trent Vogelhuber score, assisted by Josh Anderson.
Toronto's Matt Frattin notched the second period's only goal, an unassisted breakaway marker at 13:19, and after a scoreless third, the Marlies emerged with a 3-2 victory. Monsters goaltender Anton Forsberg made 27 saves in defeat while Marlies backstop Rob Madore earned the win by virtue of a 24-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday road clash vs. the Milwaukee Admirals with full coverage underway from the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 8:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
