Hershey Bears News Release
After concluding a busy month of February, the HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club heads into the final quarter of the 2010-11 regular season and the month of March with three East Division games.
With 38 wins and 19 regular season games remaining, the BEARS head to Norfolk Wednesday for an East Division clash with the Admirals. Faceoff at Norfolk Scope is at 7:15 p.m. HERSHEY then returns home for two key games at Giant Center this weekend, as the Admirals return the favor in a 7:00 p.m. Saturday start. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, who continues to hold down first place in the East Division, visits Chocolatetown Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. HERSHEY is currently in second place in the East Division race, and has the third most points of any team in the American Hockey League.
Tickets for Saturday and Sunday ¬â¢s home games are on sale now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. Following Sunday ¬â¢s home game with the Penguins, HERSHEY will have just seven regular season home games remaining.
Orlov on the blue line: The BEARS signed defenseman Dmitri Orlov to a pro tryout contract last week. Washington ¬â¢s second round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft made his North American debut Saturday with an assist against the Albany Devils. Orlov carries a two- game assist streak into Wednesday ¬â¢s game in Norfolk after picking up a playmaker Sunday in Bridgeport.
Kane joins the 20 club: Left wing Boyd Kane scored his 20th
goal of the season against the Albany Devils and picked up his 21st in the same game a short time later. Kane becomes the fourth HERSHEY skater to reach the 20-goal plateau in 2010-11, joining Brian Willsie, Andrew Gordon and Kyle Greentree. Kane sits just three goals short of his career high of 24 heading into Wednesday game in Norfolk.
Closing in on 700: Center Keith Aucoin enters Wednesday ¬â¢s game in Norfolk with 697 career AHL points. Aucoin registered six assists in less than 24 hours this past Saturday and Sunday against Albany and Bridgeport.
French closing in on 100: HERSHEY head coach Mark French enters Wednesday ¬â¢s game in Norfolk with 98 career AHL wins, two shy of 100 in just one and three quarters seasons in the American Hockey League. French won an AHL record 60 games in his rookie season in 2009-10.
Ford recalled: Goaltender Todd Ford was signed to an NHL contract last week and recalled to Washington. Ford backed up Michal Neuvirth in Saturday ¬â¢s win over the New York Islanders. Jared DeMichiel won his first start at Giant Center Saturday over Albany, earning his second win of the season.
Practice schedule: The BEARS hit the ice on Friday at HERSHEYPARK Arena for practice at 10:00 a.m.
