Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY fought back in the third period to tie the Albany River Rats 5-5, only to lose on a misplay by goalie Peter Budaj in overtime, 6-5. Budaj came on in relief of Tom Lawson to begin the third period. The BEARS got a three point effort from Eric Perrin (2 goals and 1 assist) and two goals from J. F. Soucy. Steve Brule continued to dominate against his old team with a goal and an assist. Despite a decimated line-up, missing Shane Willis, Sheldon Keefe, Brett Clark, DJ Smith, Ryan Craig and Cody McCormick, HERSHEY gains a point on Philadelphia and idle Bridgeport.
J. F. Soucy would open the scoring for HERSHEY with his second goal of the year at 7:20 of the first period. Soucy, recalled from Pensacola yesterday, would get helpers from Gavin Morgan and Evgeni Artukhin. Albany would score two goals, one on the power-play, in a 2:02 span to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Steve Brule would tie the score 2-2 for the BEARS just 1:29 into the second stanza. Eric Perrin and Jordan Krestanovich would assist on Brule's goal. Special teams would continue to be a thorn in HERSHEY'S side as they give up the first of two short-handed goals to the River Rats at 6:39 of period two. The short-handed goal would be the first of two straight goals again for Albany. The River Rats would take a two-goal lead into the second intermission, 4-2.
HERSHEY would outscore the Rats 3-1 in the third period to come all the way back to tie the score at 5-5. Eric Perrin would begin the third period scoring at the 3:42 mark on a 5 on 3 power play goal. Brule would pick up his second point of the night with one assist. Pascal Trepanier would add the second assist. Albany would come right back with their second short-handed goal of the game at 4:05. Soucy would add his second tally of the night at 13:05. Jeremy Van Hoof, also recalled from Pensacola, and Bruce Richardson would get the assists. Perrin would bring the BEARS all the way back with his second goal of the game at 15:59. Brule and Perrin are tied for the team lead with 20 goals. David Masse, recalled from Reading and Trepanier would assist, giving him a two point night as well.
The two teams would head into overtime tied at 5-5. A misplayed shot from the blue line would find its way into the net behind Budaj at 3:20 of overtime to give the River Rats the extra point.
The BEARS will return to GIANT Center on Valentine's Day, also Boyd's Bear night, to face the Portland Pirates. Show your love for the BEARS as the Pirates make their only stop in HERSHEY this season. Game time is 7:00 pm. John Walton will have all of the excitement on BIG 92.7 FM with the pre-game show beginning at 6:40 pm.
