TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the score and force extra innings, but dropped a 6-4 decision to the Midwest Sliders in 10 innings at Wuerfel Park on Saturday night.

Traverse City battled back from deficits of 3-0 and 4-2 to tie the game in the ninth inning against Midwest closer Earl Oakes. Mike Epping began the inning with an infield single and Zack Kalter followed with a double to left-center. With one out Patrick Perry knotted the score with a double into left. The Beach Bums left the winning run at third as Mike Goetz was thrown out on a bang-bang play at first to close the frame.

The Sliders scored a pair of two-out runs in the 10th inning off of Beach Bums closer Jeff Williams as Bryan Vickers hit his third double of the game to plate both runs. Mike Epping hit a fly ball to the wall with a runner on in the bottom of the frame but Anthony Albano made the play to end the game.

Midwest raced out to a 3-0 lead by scoring three unearned runs in the top of the third inning, all coming with two outs. Zack Pace and Miguel Magrass recorded singles to drive in runs while Anthony Albano doubled home a run off of Ryan Gehring.

Two runs crossed for the Beach Bums in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within a run against Midwest starter Ryan MacFarlane. With runners at second and third following a Mike Goetz double, Brad Miller was able to score on a wild pitch and Kyle Maunus drove home the other run with an infield single. Jonnie Knoble hit his first pro homer off of Gehring in the seventh to produce a 4-2 edge for the Sliders. Gehring threw seven innings and allowed just one earned run while MacFarlane struck out six in his six innings for Midwest. Neither starter factored in the decision.

Traverse City posted 10 hits in the game. Mike Goetz, Kyle Maunus, and Patrick Perry each contributed more than one hit. Perry was chosen as the Player of the Game.
