Sinclair, RiverHawks take Game Two

Loves Park, IL - Taylor Sinclair settled into a grove through innings three to seven, sitting down 18 straight to help the Rockford RiverHawks defeat the River City Rascals 6-3 Saturday night at Road Ranger Stadium.

The Rascals were trying to clinch their first road series of the season after taking game one of the series Friday night 10-9. River City got off to the better start, scoring two second inning runs off the left-hander Sinclair. Luke Barganier singled in the first run with a shot to left. Brad Hough then delivered a sacrifice fly to right to make it 2-0.

Rockford responded with a five run fourth inning off Rascals starter Danny Powers. Powers pitched three perfect innings before running into the fourth, an inning he would not survive. Five straight RiverHawk hits drove in runs after two walks started the inning. Powers left with one out and the Rascals trailing 3-2. Adam Tollefson allowed two more hits in the inning to score runs charged to Powers and the RiverHawks led 5-2.

Powers (3-5) suffered the loss going 3.1 innings, allowing three hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Sinclair was not touched again until the eighth, striking out nine in the process. Hough doubled and later scored on a Phil Laurent RBI groundout to cut the lead at the time to 6-3. Sinclair (1-0) picked up his first win of the season going 7.2 innings, allowing three earned runs.

James Cramphin picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth. Desmond Jones made his Rascals debut and tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Luis Estrella also went one scoreless inning of relief for River City.

The Rascals (25-28) and RiverHawks (25-28) play game three of the series Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. from Road Ranger. Jake Laber will be in search of his first win in a Rascals uniform against Garrett Bauer for Rockford. Catch the Rascals on the road by tuning in to FM 104.5 KSLQ.
